We are currently looking for Civil Gradeperson to join our team for exciting Infrastructure projects in and around the Lower Mainland (Vancouver Area) of BC. There is no camp work/live out (LOA) available at this time.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reading drawings and preparing notes to lay various municipal pipe types and systems
  • Understanding offset layout and cut sheets provided by subcontracted survey companies
  • Maintaining, checking, and transporting survey instruments
  • Communicating effectively with pipe crew to set pipe or elements correctly
  • Keeping notes to record installation details and accurately transposing all of those as built drawings (neatly)
  • Staying two steps ahead with preparation for the upcoming operation
  • Attending and being an active participant in all mandatory safety meetings
  • Following instructions and operating as a productive member of a high functioning team
  • Working independently, as well as part of a team
  • Being punctual and having excellent attendance

 

Qualifications:

  • Can switch to bulk earthworks and road building when required
  • Experience with GPS systems is an asset

We are in search of a Project Estimator to join the LNS team.  In this position, you will be responsible for completing full cycle bidding for projects, with support from our Design & Estimating Manager and our experienced site Superintendents, Engineers and Project Managers.   You will evaluate requests for proposals, produce detailed cost estimates and written proposals with schedules for a wide range of complex heavy industrial installation and maintenance projects ranging in value between $50K and $ 10MM – most often for bulk materials handling equipment and associated structures.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILIITES:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review bid documents, engineered design packages, specifications and associated terms and conditions to fully understand the specified scope of work, evaluate project risks and determine if LNS is the right fit for the project.
  • Attend on-site meetings to review site conditions and understand the scope of work, quality, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Develop innovative project ‘win solutions’ and evaluate internal and external resource and material requirements to complete the work competitively.
  • Identify, tender, and evaluate outside services and material packages as required to obtain technical input and costing from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Use our estimating spreadsheets to develop a complete work breakdown structure and produce a detailed estimate of all labour hours, outside services, materials and equipment costs.
  • Prepare written proposals to document the project’s scope of work, bidding assumptions and commercial aspects – to allow our project managers to manage risk and scope creep after the project is awarded.
  • Lead a bid review with internal stakeholders prior to submitting your proposals to the client.
  • Work directly with the client and their Engineers as required to support of the proposal up to award of contract.
  • Lead a kick off meeting for our engineers and project managers after award of contract to walk them through the scope of work, proposal and associated cost estimates.
  • Evaluate completed project costs to obtain feedback on your estimates, to refine future bids and identify opportunities for improvement.

QULAIFICATIONS:

  • Mechanical or Structural Engineering diploma or degree, or Red Seal Millwright combined with extensive progressive experience in a similar role
  • 5+ years’ minimum experience with industrial project estimating and contract negotiations for small to large industrial installation projects
  • 3+ years’ minimum experience managing most aspects of industrial installation and maintenance projects
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, combined with outstanding time management, analytical, prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Excel, Work, MS project and AutoCad is required.

Compensation

  • Ensure regular communication and proactive client relationship management

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the General Manager interviewing and onboarding of project team
  • Develop and maintain the project budget and provide monthly report to the General Manager
  • Manage the entire project team to ensure project targets are achieved (budget, schedule, quality)
  • Review plans & specifications to determine scope of work and define project requirements
  • Effectively manage the project adhering to all requirements set out in the prime contract
  • Effectively manage project scope by ensuring that any changes to scope are documented and approved using a change order process, and capture and submit delay notices.
  • Develop execution plans working with the field engineers, construction manager, and superintendents
  • Create and submit weekly and monthly reports to client / owner
  • Create, submit and track change orders and delay notices
  • Manage onsite subcontractors and challenge below par performance (contract, scope, schedule, quality)
  • Chair / attend onsite coordination meetings
  • Secure bonding and project specific insurance
  • Assist the estimating manager in developing project estimates
  • Work with project stakeholders to develop proposals from project estimates (scope, schedule, cost, execution)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree in engineering, construction or project management, or technical school diploma and extensive practical project management experience on applicable project work
  • 10+ years of work experience in engineering, construction or other related technical field with increasing levels of responsibility and development considered an advantage
  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager in the industrial construction sector considered an advantage
  • Significant experience mentoring, coaching and leading a team and the ability to hold members responsible for their performance
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors of varying disciplines
  • Strong grasp of basic engineering principals particularly structural and mechanical
  • Some electrical and instrumentation experience considered an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills at all stakeholder levels – including suppliers and fabricators, onsite subcontractors, field and office staff, consultancies, and clients and owners
  • Estimating and business development experience is an asset
  • Attention to detail but ability to focus on the big picture
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done
  • Proficient in MS project, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Basic Navisworks and AutoCAD skills
  • Outstanding time management, prioritization, multitasking, and organizational skills

This position is based onsite at project location. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary starting from $130,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of NorLand’s total compensation package, this position is eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility.
